ARTIST STATEMENT

Kelly Jenkins is an abstract painter and textile artist based in Hampshire, UK. The artist’s rare style is a symphony formed of paint, embroidery and geometric data visualisations on canvas, resulting in tactile, nuanced compositions that bridge the worlds of art, craft and psychology. These intense yet playful atmospheric plains are a reflection of contemporary culture, holding up a mirror to the emotional and physical frequencies of life.

With grit, sass and positivity, Kelly’s work carries an arresting sense of levity. Her meticulously embroidered abstract paintings emerge from an interplay of intention and craftmanship with spontaneity and chance. This creates a calm state of equilibrium, bringing balance and harmony.

The ultimate goal of Kelly’s art is to transform rooms around the world into colourful and happy places, offering a form of joy and clarity amongst the speed and tension of contemporary life. Kelly invites viewers into a joyful dreamland where they can sit and meet with their own thoughts, contemplate their own emotions, and reset their inner energies to positive, ready to hit the go-button again.

Kelly’s recent work is in response to her cancer diagnosis at just aged 43, Her personal experience of living through the side effects of treatment have resulted in Kelly producing some of her most colourful and intense artworks to date.

“My art is a pure reflection of my state of emotions, translated into paint and stitch onto the physical canvas. The process of both painting and embroidery are forms of restoration and comfort; emotional and physical. They both repair the damages that are inflicted in life, to make art from something that is fragmented or unable to be seen, enables us to visually understand our experiences of this world. Painting and embroidery are my attempts to keep things together and make things whole.” – Kelly Jenkins
